Daisies ~ 1 to 2 1/2 years old
The youngest class at our Midtown location, the Daisies are 12 months to 30 months (2 ½ years) old with two teachers caring for a maximum of eight children, or one teacher caring for four children. Their daily rhythm is slower, giving children the time they need to negotiate the world around them that they are just learning to live in. We provide a calm, loving, home-like environment where their daily needs can be cared for, while still offering opportunities for the children who are ready to do things all by themselves. Our teachers are often down on the floor with the children, building houses for them to knock down or sitting with a child or two in their lap who need some extra snuggles that day.
Their activities are based around sensory experiences, easy manipulatives, home care, especially baking and washing, and introducing art through free coloring and assisted painting. Their time spent outside is scheduled so they get some time with our fully fenced, private playground all to themselves to explore the natural world as much or as little as they would like without older children around, as well as time where some of the older children join them and can be models for their play and exploration. Often you can find the whole class sitting together in the warmer months happily digging in the sandbox, or expanding their play in places such as our wooden play structure, mud kitchen, garden/water area, as well as our toy shed filled with child-sized tools, trucks, and bikes. Since this is our most delicate class, they are more often inside with extreme heat, cold or smoke, so opportunities for crawling, jumping, and other large motor activities are provided inside their classroom during these times.
The stories in the Daisies' class are simpler, and often sung, with a visual element such as a puppet play, felt board story, or book. We sing songs throughout the day, introducing them to early counting, language, and body control.
Our provided snacks are wholesome, mostly organic finger foods served in the morning and later afternoon and parents provide lunches. Allergy-friendly alternatives are available for any children who need them. Pack ‘n’ Plays or mats and bedding are provided for those staying after 1:00pm to sleep, and children are soothed to sleep with a noise machine, singing or humming, and rocking or rubbing their backs as needed. There is a bathroom located inside the classroom for those early potty trainers, but potty training is not required for any but our oldest classes.
Our primary goal in the Daisy Class is to make this early experience of childcare a positive one for the children, and to provide a safe and loving environment where their early exploration of the world can begin in a healthy way.

Chickadees ~ 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 years old
The Chickadee class at our Midtown school is for children from 2 ½ years old to 3 ½ years old with two or three teachers and a maximum of 18 children. The legal ratio for this class is one teacher caring for 10 children, but we prefer to keep it lower than that due to the needs of this age. This class has a flexible daily rhythm that flows between periods of free play either inside or outside and periods of more concentrated activity, such as artistic activities, movement circle, story, and meals. There is space built in for meeting the varied needs of this age range, from negotiating early social interactions to the different stages of potty-training children are in, while still expanding on the simple Daisy curriculum to enhance their new capabilities for cognitive understanding and motor control.
Regular drawing and painting activities are introduced, these continue throughout the rest of our older classes at the school, as well as seasonal craft activities that are built up in multiple layers over days or weeks to culminate in a much-loved final art piece. This class bakes fresh bread or other treats each week and still has sensory activities throughout their curriculum to meet the needs of these children who still experience the world primarily through touch. They spend time outside most days exploring the natural world on our fenced, private playground and expanding their play in places such as our wooden play structure, large sandbox, mud kitchen, garden/water area, as well as our toy shed filled with child-sized tools, trucks, and bikes. During times of extreme heat, cold or smoke, opportunities for crawling, jumping, and other large motor activities are provided inside their classroom.
The stories told in this class are simple, often repetitive, classic tales that sometimes are presented with a visual element such as a felt board or puppet play, and occasionally end our curriculum blocks with the children acting out the story themselves through manipulating the puppets or becoming characters in the story. This sets the foundation for early memorization and especially letter sounds that are repeated over and over in the stories. This class has a daily movement circle with seasonal songs that are enhanced with intentional gestures meant to build a child’s large motor control and body awareness, as well as being super fun!
Our provided snacks are wholesome, mostly organic finger foods served in the morning and later afternoon and parents provide their lunches. Allergy-friendly alternatives are available for any children who need them. Mats and bedding are provided for those staying after 1:00pm to sleep or rest quietly on, and children are soothed to sleep with a noise machine, singing or humming, or rubbing their backs as needed. There is a bathroom located inside the classroom for those early potty trainers, but potty training is not required for any but our oldest classes.
In the Chickadee class our goal is to provide a safe and loving environment where the children can feel confident exploring the world around them. We strive to meet their developmental needs for sensory stimulation and early social interaction and begin to build a foundation for the love of art and learning.

Our snacks are wholesome, mostly organic finger foods or warming, fresh cooked foods provided daily in the morning and later afternoon and parents provide their lunches. Allergy-friendly alternatives are available for any children who need them. Mats and bedding are provided for those staying after 1:00pm to rest quietly on and children are read gentle stories or soothed with singing, humming or rubbing their backs. For those children who still require a nap, we bring them to sleep with the younger children in a different room during our afternoon program. Blue Jays ~ 3 1/2 to 5 years old
The Blue Jay class is for children from three and a half to five years old at our Midtown school. This class has a ratio of one teacher caring for 10 children and a maximum class size of 14 children with two teachers. Their daily rhythm flows between periods of free play either inside or outside and periods of more focused activity, such as artistic activities, movement circle, story, and meals. Social collaboration and projects are encouraged in both our curriculum and play, and early academics are introduced through songs, games, movement, and story before presenting the abstract idea.
The activities in this class consist of regular drawing and watercolor painting, as well as seasonal craft activities that are built up in multiple layers over days or weeks to culminate in a much-loved final art piece, gift, or class project. Small motor control is more strongly emphasized in some of our crafts, such as beeswax modeling, early handwork, and different sensory activities. They spend time outside most days exploring the natural world on our fenced, private playground and expanding their play in places such as our wooden play structure, large sandbox, mud kitchen, garden/water area, as well as our toy shed filled with child-sized tools, trucks, and bikes. Parents are encouraged to dress the children for all weather because this class is often outside rain, sun, or snow, but if they are inside with extreme heat, cold or smoke, opportunities for crawling, jumping, and other large motor activities are provided inside their classroom.
