Each class has a well-designed morning rhythm to support the child’s natural breathing. Each outward breathing activity (e.g. creative play, outside time, circle) is followed by an inward breathing activity (e.g. snack, rest, story). The curriculum provides the child with a school experience that is an intermediate step between home and formal schooling. Our goal is to provide a calm, safe, and nurturing environment in which the imagination, creativity and growth of the child will flourish.
In this environment, the three R’s (Reverence, Repetition, and Rhythm) play an important role. We promote reverence towards nature, our toys, and classroom space as well as in our relationships with classmates and teachers. As young children learn and grow through doing and imitation, we work a lot with repetition, so the children can feel confident in knowing what is expected of them. The foundation of a secure and calm program is the daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly rhythm. The young child knows and feels what is coming next, and gentle, regular transitions benefit us all.
